Kidney racket: TS Medical Council sends notice to Alaknanda Hospital

Hyderabad: Taking suo motu cognizance of the alleged illegal kidney transplant racket at Alaknanda Hospital in Saroornagar, the Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC) served a notice to the hospital. After the raid on Tuesday, the Health Department had seized the hospital.
The council directed the hospital management to share all details including registration of doctors and surgeons involved in the transplant. Medical records related to donors, organ recipients and human resources were also sought from the hospital.
“We have taken suo motu cognizance of the developments and decided to give notice to the hospital management. They have to share all the details of their registration. Later, the doctors of the hospital will have to appear before the Medical Ethics and Malpractice Committee of the Council and present their case. Their registration may be suspended for 2 to 3 years in the coming weeks, said Dr G Srinivas, TSMC vice-chairman.
