Kuppam in the first state to adopt net zero-fuel waste collection system

Tirupati: A CNG-operated computer vehicle and 20 electric autos were launched in Kuppam, making it the first municipality in the state to adopt pure zero-fuel waste collection system.

This initiative implemented by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Kuppam Area Development Authority (Kada) is part of the ‘Swarna Kuppam-Swachh Kuppam’ vision. For that drive.

So far, the municipality trusted 14 diesel tractors, each in garbage about 1 to 1.5 tonnes per trip. A new compact running on compressed natural gas, can transport 12 tons of waste to the same journey, which can reduce the number of required trips rapidly, can be cut in fuel, and reduce emissions by improving efficiency.

To strengthen the attempt, 20 electric autos are pressed into service for door-to-door collection in narrow residential lane where large vehicles cannot enter. Compact is yet effective, these e-autos run perfectly on electricity and are fitted with audio systems to alert the residents and spread awareness about the separation of garbage in the specified colored compartments.

Officials said that adopting environment-conscious vehicles is only part of the comprehensive plan. Work is underway to establish an waste-to-CBG production facility, which will transform organic waste into biogas and organic fertilizers. The move is expected to reduce landfill dependence and create new income avenues.

Vikas Marmamat, director of the Kada Project, said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Kuppam is being converted into a pure zero constituency, where stability is inherent in everyday life.

He said that every village would eventually be equipped to convert the waste into money through phased execution. A memorandum has been signed with the Gandhian study academy to encourage participation, to reduce waste, reduce plastic use and to run awareness campaigns on sustainable practices.

Residents are being urged to join the mission by taking pledge for lack of waste and water conservation. With its pure zero-fleet fleet, Kuppam has set a benchmark for other municipalities in the state, officials said, aligning themselves with India’s large climate commitments and strengthened the Golden Kuppam Vision 2029.
