Lift shortage in Hyderabad, a rising concern

Hyderabad: People with doors collapse in lifts, especially apartments and other complexes are changing the trap of death for some. Recently, the city has seen a range of dangerous lift accidents due to serious security concerns and immediate need for strict rules.
Recently lift-related accidents serve as a clear reminder of the need for pressure of broad safety rules, apply strict standards, ensure regular maintenance, and apply accountability to the safety of residents.
Industry experts highlight that in most examples the lifts and parts are either of low grade and quality or are not purchased from branded and original manufacturers.
“Instead, they gather from various local suppliers using cheap and low quality parts. Even maintenance is done by non-professions, “a lift expert, Vicky Murthy and who served as Electrical Engineers with the Indian Air Force and also served several positions with Kon Lift India and Otis Elevator India.
The collapsed doors lift has a gate or door lock for safety. This, most people fix a cheap quality. “They buy a cheap and do not replace it even after wearing and tears over a period of time,” said Murthy, which can threaten life. “
In addition, a lift over-speed governor in a lift is also important. This is the device that prevents an elevator from breaking its speed limit when it is ascending or descending. When the lift is moving at a high speed, the speed governor will activate the safety mechanism, shut down the power circuit, and the elevator will stop the car.
Murthy states that regular maintenance of lifts and the requirement of a branded company should also be given annual maintenance. “Usually, people ignore it and are not ready to pay Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000,” he said.
In addition, it has been observed that small builders or manufacturers were going against the rules of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and installing lifts without attaching qualified electrical and mechanical engineers.
Between recurring accidents, a requirement is also felt for a regulatory structure or a dedicated lift act in Telangana, which are in different states across the country.
